A Word About Safety …

Children are unpredictable. While no safety product can replace adult supervision, window-covering manufacturers continue to take aggressive steps to help ensure child safety.  Even one accident is too many.

Safety Tassels

Most cord lift and tilt controls on horizontal, cellular, and pleated shades now come with an end tassel that breaks apart under minimal pressure to protect pets and children.  Should the tassel come apart, it’s very easy to reassemble. Simply snap the two halves back together.  An over-the-counter version of this type of safety tassel is available to retrofit horizontal blinds of any make or model. Please email us for details.

Keep Cords Out of Reach

To prevent injury or strangulation, remember to tie cords out of the reach of children by using either a cord cleat, by fastening the cord to itself using a cord clip or other clamping device or by wrapping the cord and tying the cord to itself.

The appearance of shorter, retractable lifting cords such as HunterDouglas’ UltraGlide available on their Manhattan cellular shades, keep cords well above the pathway of children and pets.  Whether the shade is all the way up or down, or anywhere in between, the cord remains the same length.

Eliminate Cords

Another available option that totally eliminates the lift cords from blinds and shades is the HunterDouglas LiteRise system.  It is an innovative cordless system that allows blinds and shades to be raised and lowered at the touch of a finger.

As you can see, the manufacturers of window coverings are taking solid measures to minimize the dangers, but parents should ensure that they understand the importance of safety.   If you have any concerns about the safety of your window blinds or shades, send us and email at customerservice@northernblinds.com.
